Web Developer – Xelus, Inc.
December 2000 to November 2001
For most of 2001 I was privileged to work on rebuilding and maintaining the Xelus, Inc. corporate website, as well as working on a handful of IT-related web projects.
Xelus was involved in the business of predicting the flow and use of replacement parts and maintenance supplies for high-tech manufacturing and logistics industries. I wasn't involved in any of that, but I was proud to work for a company selling software that could pay for itself with savings realized a single business cycle.
Alas, Xelus no longer exists. But I learned a lot working there.
Developed and documented new presentation layer architecture for the Xelus, Inc. corporate website (formerly at http://www.xelus.com/ [1]). Primary design goals were ease of maintenance by non-technical personnel, and ability to easily alter site-wide look and feel. Both were achieved through careful segregation of content, presentation code, and information architecture. Development required extensive work in ASP, using VBScript and a few third-party components, as well as client-side code for forms validation and browser compatibility detection. Worked with the Manager of Internet Communications and sales and marketing support personnel to create site functionality supporting sales and marketing initiatives.
Developed a web-based employee directory for internal use at Xelus, Inc., using Microsoft's ADSI to access an LDAP directory of employee data.
